AbstractThis guidance is intended to inform general practitioners about the clinical and public health actions in the event of a deliberate release of botulinum toxin. The guideline provides background information (what is it?, transmission, what is the incubation period?, how do I know my patient has it?, what else might it be?, complications and prognosis) and management issues (antimicrobial susceptibilities, surveillance and detection of deliberate releases of Cl. Botulinum, management of exposed people, collection of samples, transport of samples (including contact details), contact details for national specialists in the PHLS.
