AbstractAn update of the IDSA guidelines 2000 for Community-acquired pneumonia taking new developments and problems into account.
Updated sections: initial site of treatment, diagnosis of C. pneumoniae, Legionaires disease, bioterrorism, prevention, macrolides, fluoroquinolone resistance and performance indicators.

New sections include pneumococcal antigen, breakpoints for cefotaxime and ceftriaxone, SARS, treatment of bacteraemic pneumococcal pneumonia, viral CAP, CAP in the elderly and ketolides.

Please note that this guideline was developed in the US and that practice in the UK may differ.
