Abstract | This guidance covers the management of acute infective gastroenteritis. It does not cover the prevention of gastroenteritis, including antibiotic prophylaxis of traveller's diarrhoea. This guidance does not cover the management of other causes of acute diarrhoea. The guideline provides background information (what is it?, how common is it?, how do I know my patient has it?, how do I assess for dehydration?, what else might it be?, complications and prognosis) and management issues (general issues, feeding during gastroenteritis, prevention of dehydration, treatment of dehydration, antimotility agents, antiemetics, antimicrobial treatment and chronic diarrhoeas). |
