Author(s)PRODIGY Knowledge
AbstractThis guidance deals with the management of cystitis in men as well as UTI in men with long-term urethral catheters. It does not deal with the treatment of prostatitis or urethritis or infection of the upper urinary tract. The guideline provides background information (what is it?, how common is it?, typical presentation of lower UTI, atypical presentations of lower UTI, risk factors for UTI, investigations, collection, storage and transport of urine samples, urine culture, urine dipstick, urine microscopy, imaging and functional tests, what else might it be? complications and prognosis), and management issues (acute cystitis in men, outline of management, investigations, antimicrobials, analgesia, other treatments, recurrent cystitis, cystitis in elderly men, UTIs in men with indwelling urinary catheters). There is also a worked scenario (including therapy).
