Abstract | Guidelines on the Management of Communicable Diseases in Schools and Nurseries: Infectious Mononucleosis. This document provides details of mode of transmission -definition of onset/incubation period; risk of transmission - duration of shedding; period of infectiousness - serial interval; and exclusion period from school/nursery. Asymptomatic infection is probably common. Most presumed sources of the condition have no history of glandular fever. Exclusion not warranted because infection is usually mild, there are unidentified asymptomatic sources, and virus is excreted for a prolonged time. |
