Abstract | This guidance seeks to ensure that individuals requesting an HIV test receive appropriate discussion prior to testing (whether it be in hospital, primary care or community settings) so that they can decide whether to have an HIV test in a properly informed way. This guidance was produced in response to concern that there is a lack of consistency in the content of pre-test discussion. The guidelines are not prescriptive but form the framework for an appropriate and adequate discussion for health care workers.
