AbstractSyphilis is classified as acquired or congenital. Acquired syphilis is divided into early and late syphilis. Congenital syphilis is divided into early (first 2 years) and late including stigmata of congenital syphilis. This guideline gives information on the following aspects of early syphilis: classification; clinical features; history; diagnosis; management; specific treatment; congenital syphilis; HIV infected patients; management of contacts; follow-up; auditable outcome measures.
