Diagnosis and management of childhood otitis media in primary care

AbstractThis guideline provides recommendations based on current evidence for best practice in the management of acute otitis media and otitis media with effusion. It provides evidence about detection, management, referral and follow-up of children with these conditions. It excludes discussion of surgical management such as the insertion of grommets nor does it address the needs of children with genetic or facial abnormalities. The guideline is likely to be of interest to GPs, practice nurses, audiologists, paediatricians, otolaryngologists, audiological physicians, health visitors, social workers, public health physicians, users of services and all other professions caring for children.
