AbstractGuidelines on the Management of Communicable Diseases in Schools and Nurseries: Roseola Infantum. This document provides details of mode of transmission - definition of onset; incubation period; risk of transmission - duration of shedding; period of infectiousness - serial interval; and exclusion period from school/nursery. 90% of cases occur over 2 years of age, so spread in family or nursery is unusual. Nearly all children have evidence of infection by 2 years of age. Infection is presumably asymptomatic (or undiagnosed) in most cases.
