AbstractGuidelines on the Management of Communicable Diseases in Schools and Nurseries: Impetigo - Streptococcal. This document provides details of mode of transmission - definition of onset; incubation period; risk of transmission - duration of shedding; period of infectiousness - serial interval; and exclusion period from school / nursery. Broken skin usually required for the development of streptococcal impetigo. There is little evidence for this but serial interval suggests that most transmission occurs in first week.
