AbstractGuidelines on the Management of Communicable Diseases in Schools and Nurseries: Rubella. This document provides details of mode of transmission - definition of onset; incubation period; risk of transmission - duration of shedding; period of infectiousness - serial interval; and exclusion period from school/nursery. In young children, rubella is usually a mild disease with no sequelae. Rubella may cause arthritis in older children. Main risk is to fetus from infection in pregnancy. Most children and pregnant women are immune as a result of vaccination.
