So what else can I do to get rid of cystitis?
|
 | |
The NHS Direct Self-care Guide recommends the following for women with cystitis (bacterial or urethral):
- Drink slightly acid drinks such as cranberry juice, lemon squash or pure orange juice. Despite this advice a recent Cochrane Review (2002) concluded that there was insufficient evidence to recommend the use of cranberry juice in preventing or treating infections. This does not mean that cranberry juice does not help, only that more research is necessary to confirm that it helps.
- Try a mixture of potassium citrate, which you can get from your pharmacist
- Sex can cause cystitis in women. Urinating after sex can help to flush out any bacteria that may have entered the urethra.
